Depreciation of Local Canvas Guest Accounts

The intricate, wrought iron gate of the Memorial Quadrangle features the Yale motto Lux et Veritas and coat of arms

Canvas @ Yale is beginning to depreciate its use of local Canvas guest accounts, which are accounts that login to Canvas @ Yale through the Guest login portal and use a personal email and password to authenticate into Canvas. In its stead, Canvas @ Yale is rolling out Canvas User Sponsored Identities, which will allow non-Yale community members to receive a Yale Sponsored NetID that they will use to login to Canvas.

Deactivated local Canvas guest accounts are not deleted and their enrollment data / access to content and activities is preserved. Deactivated local Canvas guest accounts are just unable to login to Canvas @ Yale.

If a user with a local Canvas guest account receives a Yale Canvas User sponsored identity then their local guest account will merge with the Canvas User Sponsored Identity account to ensure that no user enrollments, grades, or access to content is lost when the account is available.
