Canvas Transition

Canvas will replace Classes*v2 as Yale’s learning management system.

NOTE: The timelines described here are for course sites only – these do not reflect the timelines for Classes*v2 project site transitions.

The transition process for course sites will take place over the 2016-2017 academic year and will conclude with all Yale College courses (and participating professional schools) fully transitioned to Canvas by summer 2017. We anticipate that Classes*v2 will remain online in a read-only capacity until May 31, 2019 to accommodate the need to review past student work and grades.

Some schools and programs are going to transition into Canvas according to their own timeline. If you have any questions, please contact your local support team.

As part of the transition process, over summer 2017 we automatically migrated faculty content only from the most recent copy of all unique courses* taught in Classes*v2 since 2009.  Please see the following article for additional information on this bulk migration.  Migrated content includes:

  • Assignments
  • Forums
  • Home Page
  • Resources
  • Syllabus

(Additional content from Announcements, Test & Quizzes, and Media Library/Gallery can be migrated by request only.)

For more information about the Canvas selection process, please see Canvas Pilot.

* Unique courses are identified by a unique combination of the following:  course title, course number, and instructor.
